What’s the deal with Bloody Marys?

Who would’ve thought that tomato juice and vodka would be a good combo? A man named Fernand Petiot, a New York bartender who first mixed the drink back in the 1920s. Was it Petiot who also decided this cocktail would be suitable for AM consumption? Something tells me, if you mix it with anything other than tomato or orange juice, you won’t be seeing it till evening. Sounds like the man was just looking for a way to get through those slow morning shifts in the bar. When first introduced, his bar patrons were less than impressed with the seemingly bland drink, so he proceeded to add a medley of peppers, Worcestershire sauce, and Tabasco hot sauce. These additions more than pleased his regulars. Now you might ask, where did that garnish come from? You didn’t ask for a veggie platter with your drink, but there it is, sitting on the brim. Meant to complement the spice of the drink, you get a little something to snack on while sipping that Bloody Mary.

Our Bloody Mary, dubbed the “Proud Mary,” was first introduced at the Lakewood RAM 20 years ago, and it has been a staple of our cocktail menu ever since. The Proud Mary is equipped with a proper garnish of celery, peppers, olives, cherry tomatoes, and even cheese. That’s not all you’ll find it comes served with. Who says you can’t have a drink to go with your drink? We serve the Proud Mary with a taster of Blonde Ale. It’s ready for you any brunch, lunch, happy hour, or late night.

Hometown Blonde Ale for Hometown Heroes

This week America pauses to honor its military veterans. The RAM Restaurant & Brewery is raising funds for Everyone For Veterans, a non-profit dedicated to connecting local communities to those who served. The RAM will donate $1 from every Mug sold of their popular and award-winning Hometown Blonde Ale.

“Hometown Blonde for Hometown Heroes” starts Friday, November 9th and continues through Sunday, November 18th. Dave Iverson of The RAM said, “We are extremely motivated to help build awareness of Everyone For Veterans. Jackie Yeh, a former intern at The RAM and now with Everyone For Veterans, brought us together and once we learned more about their support and services, we were all in.”

Dr. Theresa Cheng, DDS, Founder and Executive Director of Everyone For Veterans added, “Veteran agencies have been aware of our organization, but getting our message out has been challenging. This collaboration with RAM is tremendous in helping to raise awareness and support of veterans.”

Everyone For Veterans educates and connects the public to support veterans in their communities by offering free services or goods. Dr. Cheng said, “Presently we have a backlog of qualified veterans waiting for services.” She continued, “The RAM is a shining example of a local community member supporting veterans.”

“Hometown Blonde for Hometown Heroes” is happening at all RAM Restaurants & Breweries. Dave Iverson said, “Our goal is to take care of our veterans by raising money and informing the communities that we serve about this compassionate organization dedicated to improving the lives of our veterans.” Dr. Cheng added, “This is an opportunity to serve those who’ve served and The RAM is stepping up big time to help us get the word out.” Iverson added, “At the end of the day, it’s the right thing to do. It always feels good to help people.”

$1 will be donated for every Mug sold so come in now and raise a frosty Hometown Blonde Ale at The RAM in support of Everyone For Veterans. Put your money where your Mug is!

Either way, this mound of mouthwatering goodness continues to be one of the most popular guest choices.

Also featured in the Fall of Fame Menu is Mario’s Diablo Burger. Order at your own risk! This one has a kick to it! Served on a garlic’d pub roll with arugula and buffalo sauce, it’s topped with pepper jack cheese and red onion. Mario’s Diablo is not for the timid, but its full spicy flavor is your reward for stepping up to the plate. Enjoy it with a fresh beer from the seasonal lineup, or an ice-cold Dr. Pepper.

For the salad lover, the BBQ Citrus Salad is bursting with unparalleled goodness. Served with your choice of pineapple glazed BBQ grilled chicken or a salmon filet. The BBQ Citrus Salad boasts mandarin oranges and grapefruit segments mingled with sliced red onion, crumbled Wisconsin Blue Cheese, onion crisps, candied pecans, and house-made honey mustard vinaigrette all on mixed greens. Enjoy this salad with a freshly brewed on site Big Red’s IPA.

In addition to these prized favorites, other featured Fall of Fame classics include the Sergeant Pepper Burger, a southwest seasoned beef patty topped with a roasted smoked anaheim pepper in addition to other goodies including house-made Buttface Amber Ale cheese sauce, Wisconsin pepper jack cheese, and crispy fried jalapeno straws. The Nantucket Fish Sandwich continues to shine on the Fall of Fame Menu. Guests rave that this is an amazing sandwich. North Atlantic haddock is dusted with seasoned flour and cooked golden. It’s served on grilled Texas toast with sweet pineapple slaw, Wisconsin cheddar and house-made dill Tartar sauce. Pair it with the silver medal-winning Big Horn Hefeweizen.

For the final encore enjoy the deliciously rich, house-made chocolate peanut butter pie. It’s crafted with velvety smooth peanut butter, spun with cream cheese, and layered on Oreo cookie crumb crust, topped with chocolate ganache, whipped cream, and chopped peanuts. This dessert is for the peanut butter and chocolate lover, and who isn’t?!

$3487 Raised for Tacoma Museum of Glass

TACOMA, WA – The RAM Restaurant & Brewery partnered with Tacoma’s Museum of Glass (MOG) recently and tapped a special Conehead Kolsch beer in its restaurants. $1 from each Conehead sale was donated back to the MOG. The name “Conehead” was a fun way to tie back into the museum’s famous cone where the glass is blown and amazing artwork comes to life. Brewed by the award-winning brewery team at The RAM, Conehead Kolsch featured a light-bodied, mild, and clean malt profile and noble hop character to add a snappy finish. This easy-to-drink beer featured Hallertau and Azacca hops for a not-so-bitter, soft and fruity finish.

The Conehead was available at the Tacoma, Lakewood, Kent, Puyallup, and Federal Way Rams, as well as CI Shenanigans on the waterfront in Tacoma. The partnership was culminated with a beer garden celebration on the plaza outside the Museum to coincide with Glass Fest Northwest, a community event hosted by Museum of Glass and Tacoma Art Museum. Here The RAM poured the last few kegs and celebrated the successful collaboration with the Museum. Final proceeds at the end of the month totaled $3,487!

Museum of Glass Executive Director, Debbie Lenk, said, “Partnering with the RAM was a first for the Museum, and based on the results, I’m hoping there will be more opportunities in the future. From naming the beer, to the tasting party, and finally the beer garden at Glass Fest, this was a terrific collaboration and I’m pleased that we will be able to use the proceeds from this effort to support the Museum’s community programs.”

Oktoberfest Bier on Tap Now at The RAM

As the summer fades away and football favorites take the field, The RAM Restaurant and Brewery has tapped their most popular and awarded seasonal brew, Oktoberfest Bier. With a recent gold medal from the 2018 North American Beer Awards, Oktoberfest is on a winning streak with their 6th consecutive piece of NABA hardware to add to the trophy room.

“We brew Oktoberfest with imported German Malts and Hops to create a traditional toasted malt profile and snappy, herbal hop finish. Brewed in the midst of summer and allowed to lager for months prior to release, Oktoberfest beer spends more time lagering than pouring from our taps. Come raise a pint while you can, it’s only available for a limited time!” says Dave Leonard, Director of Brewing Operations.

Stop by your favorite RAM and raise a pint…Lederhosen are optional, but strongly encouraged!
