The RAM Restaurant and Brewery Becomes Employee-Owned Company

December 22, 2014

LAKEWOOD, Wash., Dec. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — The RAM Family of Restaurants and Breweries announced today that it has become an employee owned company. Founded in 1971 in Lakewood, Washington, The Company has grown to over 30 restaurants with 3 distinct brands across 6 states; The RAM Restaurant & Brewery in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Illinois and Indiana, C.B. & Potts Restaurant & Brewery in Colorado and CI Shenanigans in Tacoma, Washington.

The Company has always been proud of its family-owned status and the consistent focus on delivering a quality food and beverage experience to over 100,000 weekly guests.  Now the business is owned by a new family, its family of team members who recently acquired ownership in the Company. 2,000 of The Ram’s team members acquired this ownership through a newly formed Employee Ownership Stock Plan (ESOP). Stock is allocated to team members over time at no cost to them. Dave Iverson, COO of RAM said, “The ESOP is our opportunity to give back to our outstanding RAM restaurant team and to tangibly recognize their commitment to the company and to our guests.” Iverson went on to say, “We wanted to share with all of those who have helped us in achieving the success we enjoy.”

After observing the growing in popularity of ESOPs among breweries and restaurant groups alike, the Iversons recognized that employee-owned companies evolve and grow for the better. As a result, they elected to implement an ESOP to create that “ownership culture” in their own restaurant and brewery locations. The ESOP structure will allow The RAM to remain independent and dedicated to its mission of providing superior quality food and ice-cold craft beers in its community-focused restaurants. Moving forward into 2015 and beyond, both Jeff and Dave Iverson will continue to lead and grow The RAM along with the senior leadership team. The announcement of this “Holiday Bonus” from the Iverson brothers came as a surprise to The RAM team as word spread this past Friday of their good fortune.

“For over 40 years we have focused on building family-oriented restaurants that contribute to the communities they serve,” said RAM President Jeff Iverson. “Forming an employee-owned company was another way for us to give back to the community, and it recognizes the hard work of each and every team member who has helped grow The RAM into the award-winning family of restaurants it has become,” Iverson added.

CSG Partners Managing Director Eitan Milstein led the transaction team. “It was a great pleasure to work for the RAM Restaurant group and help them form an employee-owned organization,” said Milstein. “The business and its many employees will no doubt benefit immensely from the transaction as the company continues to grow and prosper in the future.”

August 12, 2014

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The RAM Restaurant and Brewery was recognized at the 16th annual Indiana Brewer’s Cup at the Indiana State Fair last month. Indianapolis RAM brewers were awarded with a gold medal for their Ahhhnold SCHWARZ-enegger schwarzbier and a bronze medal for their Saison Du Jean-Claude saison beer. Having our beer creations put up against some of the best and come out with medals is very exciting especially at one of the nation’s largest competitions,” said Regional Brewer Lanny Fetzer.

The Ahhhnold SCHWARZ-enegger schwarzbier is a dark, malty German Lager with a deep ruby/garnet color boasting intense Munich malt character and a subtle roasted malt finish that leaves a lingering dryness on the palate. The Saison Du Jean-Claude is a light, fruity and spicy brew with a distinct tartness and high levels of attenuation and carbonation which attribute to a very dry, effervescent finish.

LAKEWOOD, WA – The RAM Restaurant and Brewery was recognized by the North American Brewers Association at the 18th annual North American Beer Awards on June 6th in Idaho Falls, Idaho. The RAM was awarded five medals, including two golds, for their hand-crafted beers from Washington and Idaho. “It is great to see our brewers continue their medal winning tradition at the North American Beer Awards. Winning medals for our Total Disorder Porter, Okotberfest and brewers’ releases showcases the quality and creativity of our brewery team,” stated Director of Brewery Operations, Dave Leonard who was extremely happy with the medals won.

Proudly representing the Northgate Seattle RAM location were Brewers Bill Jenkins and Kevin Forhan, who came home with a gold medal for their Brown Dwarf* in the American Brown Ale category. “The Brown Dwarf was fun to brew because we used a number of different types of malts and a new Australian hop variety to showcase some of these complex flavors. Brown is the new Black!” said Brewer Bill Jenkins with excitement about the gold winning brew.

*The NABA gold medal Brown Dwarf will be featured alongside The RAM’s Paradisi Pale Ale and Saison Desisit Belgian farmhouse ale at the Washington Brewers Festival this weekend, June 13-16, at Marymoor Park in Redmond! Be sure to stop by and taste NABA gold!*

Steve Kirven and his brewing team from The RAM warehouse in Tacoma, WA, won a bronze for their Total Disorder Porter, a RAM Flagship Beer, which also won a bronze medal at the NABA in 2013. Steve Kirven said, “It’s exciting to have our Porter medal in back to back years at the North American Beer Awards. Porter is a personal favorite and has been awarded 5 medals at GABF, NABA and World Beer Cup combined.”

Boise RAM Brewers, Jake Schisel and Jake Talbot, also brought home three medals, a gold for the Failure to Communicate Red IPA, a silver for the Owyhee Oktoberfest and a bronze for the Lost Reindeer.

The RAM’s Bigger, Better, Fresher beers are locally brewed and nationally recognized. Focusing on quality, consistency, and drinkability, The RAM has been rewarded over the years with guest loyalty and industry recognition having been awarded over 70 medals from the NABA since 2001.
